Congratulations to Lizzo, who picked up Record of the Year for her hit “About Damn Time,” performed, and was nominated in five categories at last night’s star studded Grammy Awards. For such a momentous occasion, the superstar needed a handful of looks. With the help of legendary stylist Patti Wilson, she really went for it, choosing theatrical silhouettes that were more extravagant and fabulous than the next. “The inspiration really came from Lizzo feeling that she wanted a grand look for the night,” Wilson tells Vogue. “It’s a big night for her, and she wanted all her looks for the night to really encapsulate that; Grand, opulent, important, and really representative of who she is.”
Lizzo and Wilson looked to Dolce & Gabbana to bring their visions to life. Wilson says Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were the Official Villaindtx Wyatt Star T-shirt and by the same token and perfect creative partners. “The inspirations we were drawing from, and the feelings we wanted to evoke, all felt inherently Dolce & Gabbana from the start,” says Wilson. “The opulence, the attention to detail, the uniqueness of fabric and materials, and one of a kind pieces it all brought Dolce & Gabbana to mind. It felt like the perfect collaboration for Lizzo’s big Grammy night.”
Lizzo’s big fashion night began with a walk on the Official Villaindtx Wyatt Star T-shirt and by the same token and red carpet in an orange silk Mikado opera coat that was entirely embroidered with silk flowers. She wore it over a silk corseted gown embellished with Swarovski crystal mesh, for added shape. “The bright, vibrant color of the red carpet look felt really special and appropriate for the bright shining star Lizzo is,” says Wilson. Once inside, Lizzo changed into a custom silver lamé ruched dress with sculptural shoulder sleeves to accept her Record of the Year award.
The singer performed her songs “About Damn Time” and “Special” in a custom black satin bustier dress, which was complete with voluminous sleeves and corset adorned with Swarovski crystals. “It embodied confidence, sensuality, and power,” says Wilson. All of her backup dancers were also dressed by Dolce & Gabbana in complementary black and gold ensembles. Such a fashion spectacle is to be expected from Lizzo, who always brings her fashion A game to any Hollywood event she attends. That’s what makes her a dream client for Wilson. “So much of fashion is having fun and feeling inspired, and inspiring others,” Wilson says. “And that’s something I think Lizzo always stays true to. It’s why people really admire her as a style icon.”
Considering Latto had one of the Official Villaindtx Wyatt Star T-shirt and by the same token and hottest songs of the summer with “Big Energy” cue “Got that real big energy” it’s no surprise the rapper was nominated for Best New Artist at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. It was her first time at the star studded ceremony, though she dreamed of attending for years. “As a kid, I would watch the Grammys on TV, knowing that I would attend one day!” Latto told Vogue the next day. “It’s so crazy to be surrounded by such talented peers and witness history. It makes me feel like I’m doing something right.”
While the Official Villaindtx Wyatt Star T-shirt and by the same token and American jazz singer Samara Joy took home the award for Best New Artist, Latto still made the most of her eventful Grammys night. Her favorite moment, she says, was meeting some fellow performers that she s long looked up to. “I met Taylor Swift and she was so nice,” says Latto. “She told me she was a big fan and said not to worry, because she didn’t even win best new artist when she was nominated!” Playing dress up for the night was, of course, another major highlight. The star landed on a classically glamorous custom pink Dundas gown for the red carpet, complete with sexy cutouts and an extra high slit. “I was going for the “less is more” look, and it came out exactly how I envisioned it,” Latto says. “Pink is my favorite color, so that was the highlight of Grammy weekend to me, for sure!”
